カタールのドーハに行ったとき、石油は水より安く、近代的な高層建築が次々とできて行ってく一方スーパーでは輸入の野菜果物ばかりでこれは持続的な発展に逆行するなと思ったんですが。。

今日こういう記事を見つけました。「マスダールシティ」UAEアラブ首長国連邦の首都アブダビにある近未来都市だそうです。UAEといえばドバイが有名で、ここも近未来都市然としていて、一部ではバブルがはじけた？ともささやかれていますが、このアブダビでは2006年より、マスダール計画なるものが始動しています。

これは世界初の「環境都市マスダールシティ」を作ろう、という試みであり、2015年完成予定。アブダビ政府が中心となって進めている経済開発プログラムで、持続可能な社会の構築を目指すため、最先端のエネルギー技術の研究開発を近未来都市を作りながら行うようです。2006年5月に発表された10年にわたる計画では、予算総額は数千億円規模だそうです。

アブダビは逆説的に、潤沢なオイルマネーによって、自らが石油依存型から抜け出す広大なプロジェクトを始め世界のイニシアチブをとるべく動きだしているそうです。さて成功するでしょうか？

１５歳ぐらいから１８歳ぐらいを対象に午前は英語、日本語、ESDを中心に教え、午後はコン
ピューター、農業、木工、工芸などを生徒と一緒に進めながら、できた製品を販売したり、イ
ンターネットカフェで実際、軽食も出しながら、地域の文化の中心にしてもらえるようにでき
ないものか。また木工や工芸製品はフェアトレードで日本で販売できないものか、ひいてはエ
コツアーを組織して、海外からツアー客を呼べないものかと、次々に夢は広がって行きます。
ケニアに引きこもるのではなく、状況やエコ生活を発信し、また日本の学校との交流などでき
ないものか。日本の文房具や古着、古い洋書などを、向こうで供給できないものか。。などな
ど課題は山済みですが。今夢と希望に燃えています。

Our plan for the school is for example, we would like to teach English, Japanese,
other subjects ,and ESD to the boys and girls of 15~18 in the morning and in the
afternoon we would like to teach and practice computer, agriculture , handicraft
with the students. In fact we would like to run an Internet cafe with a real cafe
serving snacks and drinks to the community people. Also we would like to sell the
handicrafts and community products there and in Japan through fair trades. My dream
is spreading to the idea of organizing an eco tour and invite people from Japan and
other countries. Also when we go to and fro between Kenya and Japan we would bring
stationeries, used computers, used books and used clothes from Japan for Kenyan
children. We are full of dreams and hopes!

Kenya Project 3
あと２年半で退職を迎える年になりました。在任校は勤続１１年を迎えます。自分の身の振り方を考えるとともに、このままこの日本の、ある意味では「駒のひとつに過ぎない働き方」をして終わるのはとても不本意という気持ちがどこかにありました。そういうときに昨年ケニアの高校の先生Ombajo Edwardさんと神戸子どもサミットで出会って、ケニアの学校建設の夢を話すと、彼も自分の仕事をやめてでも協力したいと意気投合しました。目標はESD（Education for Sustainable Development）です。次世代に向けた教育です。環境・平和・人権・ジェンダーなどを教える専門学校的なものを設立したいということで彼や夫とともに夢を育んできました。
このあと８月中旬にケニアに行って、実際具体的な話や建設準備を進めるつもりです。この３月には退職予定です。

There are 2 years left until the retirement age. I have worked for the local government as a teacher for 35 years. I'd like to change my lifestyle in a new world and want to seek what I can do for the society. Last year I happened to meet Mr. Ombajo Edward in the youth summit conference in Kobe and shared the dream of building an ESD school in Kenya. ESD stands for Education for Sustainable Develpoment. We aim to teach "the environment", "peace", human, "rights","gender free" and so on.

２００６年に「ねがい」を通じて知り合ったケニア人の招待で始めてケニアに行きました
キスム郊外の学校を訪問し、大歓迎を受けました。大変明るい笑顔で出迎えてくれた子供たち

、しかしこの子供たちの７割の親はエイズのためなくなっていて、子供たちだけで生活してい

る世帯も珍しくありません。ここの校長先生は自分の８人の子供以外にそういう生徒を７人も
養っています。児童養護施設などありません。何人もの生徒が直接私たちに高校進学の学費を払ってほしいと言ってきました。そのときは子供たちの賢さとともに、自分の無力さが痛感されました。

I went to Kenya with my family and friends in 2006 for the first time. We visited 2 primary schools in the suburb of Kisumu City and we were warmly welcomed by the teachers and the students there. They are very cheerful with beautiful smiles but about 70 % of these children lost their parent(s) because of HIV/AIDS and have to live by themselves. The principal of one
of these primary schools is taking care of 7 children who lost their parents,
besides his own 8 children. There are no facilities like an orphanage.
During our stay in Kenya, I was asked by some children for money for the
tuition of a high school. At that time I felt helpless for myself though
those children were so smart.

>I plan to build a school （NEGAI International Education Centre) in Kakamega
in the west part of Kenya with my husband and my Kenyan friends. In Kenya, primary schools (from 1st grade to 8th grade) became obligatory
in 2003 for the first time. Students don't have to pay the tuition but there
are no lunch service at schools and there are 80~90 students in one class,
especially in the countryside. The students have to share the desks, chairs,
textbooks, notebooks and pens in the classroom of the schools without
electricity and tap water. Sometimes snakes sneak in there. They come to
school from the long distance after finishing carrying water from the rivers
and ponds or picking the twigs for cooking.

However thier motivation to study is
very high. They eagerly listen to their teachers talk and copy from the old
blackboards or remember the lesson very clearly. At elementary schools, they
are taught in English, so most children speak English as well as their
mother tangue and Swahili language.

ケニアの西部、カカメガに実業学校(ねがい国際教育センター)建設を計画しています。

ケニアでは小学校８年生(こちらの中２レベル)までは、２００３年に義務教育になりました。学費は要りませんが、特に田舎では、一クラス７０~９０人、給食なし、教科書やノートは２~３人で１冊、教室には電気なしで、壁の割れ目からは蛇も出入りするような劣悪な環境です。水道設備もなく、生徒たちは朝から家の水汲みや薪拾いをした後５~１０キロの道のりを歩いて学校に来ます。

それでも向学心は大変高く、先生の話を一言も聞き漏らさないほど、熱心に聴き、ぼろぼろのノートに書き込んだり、書くものがなくてもしっかり頭で覚えています。授業は小学校から英語で行われるため、みな英語力は高く、現地語とスワヒリ語と英語の３つの言語を操ります。

　普通ビジネスの課題は利益を上げることです。そのため貧しい人々はお金を借りられず、内職の元金でさえ、高利貸しに借りざるを得なかったそうです。貧困の種はこのシステムの悪循環によるものです。このシステムの観点を変えられないものだろうか。
　ビジネスの課題を「利益を上げること」から「人々を助け、世界の問題を解決すること」に変えられないものだろうか　事実彼はこの観点で次々と人々のための事業を可能にしています。多国籍企業とも手を結んで実現しています。一例はダノンヨーグルトの会社との連携です。栄養不良のバングラデッシュ子どもたちのために食べられる容器いりの安いヨーグルトを実現させました。次に水の企業をとも提携し、４リットル１セントの水を実現させました。
彼自身の人生の楽しみ（enjoyment)は次のものだそうです。

The mission of business is usually to maximize its profit. Por people are not trusted by bankers. The seed of poverty is from the system. Why don't you change the system and the views?
Why don't you change the mission of business? How about helping the people or solving the problems in the world? Actually he tried some business for the people.He started to negociate with even multi-national companies like Danon Yoogurt. He asked the company to make cheaper yogurt with edible cups for starving Bangladesh children. Next he made it with water company. and he made it realize "1cent for 4 litter bottle." He concluded that his enjoyment is

きのう神戸ポートアイランドの国際会議場で開かれた「ESDシンポジウムin KOBE」に行きました。そこで私の尊敬するモハメッド・ユヌス氏の講演がありました。ユヌス氏は２００６年のノーベル平和賞の受賞者でバングラデッシュの大学教授です。忙しい講演旅行の合間を縫って神戸に来られました。（その日の午前フランスから駆けつけ、次の日には中国に行かれるそうです。）
彼は１９８３年にグラミン銀行を設立し、貧しい人々の企業を促すためのお金を貸す事業を始めました。普通銀行は貧しい人々にはお金を貸しません。お金を返せないと思われているからです。しかしグラミン銀行の返済率は９７％にも上るそうです。

Today I went to listen to a speech by Mr. Mohamed Yunus, held in International Conference center in Port Island in Kobe. This symposium was entitled' ESD (Education for sustainable development) Mr. Mohammed Yunus is from Banguladesh and he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. It was a very good chance for me to listen to his speech. He came to Kobe in his busy schedule. He came to Kobr from France on the day and would go to China on the next day for his other speeches.
He established Gramin Bank (Village people Bank)and began to lend money to poor people, especially women in 1983, though usually banks don't do such things. They think poor people can't return money but actually they returned well with the rate 97%.
